5 days off ...

and I'm back baby!
I took 5 whole days off. I can't even believe it actually happened. But I did and nothing went wrong. The store is still standing. Everyone survived. And the best part is that I feel great. I couldn't have picked a better way to spend the Christmas holiday than with my family. We loved every minute of our time together.

These are the people I love spending time with.

But today...I'M BACK!

It feels good to be 'home' at my spot behind the computer. Catching up on all the paperwork that was neglected, visiting with customers, dusting off shelves, organizing boxes ~ just an ordinary day at the office. I think its true that time off can make you a better worker. A few days away and I feel refreshed and ready with new ideas for 2010.

First on the agenda is to finalize all my spring orders. New spring styles will start appearing Jan 15th.

Here's a little sneak peek of what's to come.

I know, its totally crazy. But the fashion world lives by its own calendar and I have no choice but to play along. I do love the newness of a change in shoe seasons. Its so fun to see all the styles that were ordered. Try them on (or in my case get everyone to try them on for me since they usually don't fit) and rearrange the displays to make room for the added inventory.
Anytime I get new stock, I'm faced with a dilemma. What do I do with all of these shoes? So here's my 2nd new idea that is on the agenda. Actually I stand corrected. Its not my idea at all. I don't know who to give credit to though. During the 'Countdown to Christmas' sale I had a customer come in and ask about the Wednesday sale?
I was confused so I asked her what she had heard about the Wednesday sale. Turns out someone had mistaken the countdown sale as a Wednesday special sale. Not a bad idea. So whoever you are, thank you. A new idea is born...the Wednesday Special Sale.

This just in

So there is nothing like a bit of self-evaluation to get your butt in gear. Just to keep you all updated on the life of Kelly...today I replaced the pumpkin on the front porch with a sleigh, I reattached the drain pipe to its rightful home, put up the Christmas tree and I wound up the hose and put it away until next summer. Whew! It feels sooo good! There's not much I can do about the eaten cookie dough and my kids still relive nightmares of changing in the middle of Bender Field, but hey, we can't all be perfect. Thanks for the counseling session!

All I want for Christmas are new Simple Sneakers.

Nothing makes me happier than a pair of jeans, a sweatshirt and a pair of comfy sneakers. Growing up I was definitely a casual girl. I wore a t-shirt with a sweatshirt wrapped around my waist for probably 10 years. I had a stint of trying to be a girly-girl when I was a cheerleader for a year. I didn't really fit the part though. My only method of doing my hair consisted of using copious amounts of hair spray. The results were not pretty. I wore skirts with t-shirts tucked in and then of course there was the never-ending shoe issue. "What men's shoes look good with this skirt?" It definitely wasn't an easy year and I quickly returned to my old ways. As I've gotten older I do enjoy dressing up sometimes, but truly I'm casual through and through.

10. I plan to take my kids for the annual tree cutting at Stoney Ridge but they are closed for the season, having already sold out of Christmas trees.

2. We have 4 remotes but none of them work with our DVD player.

Day # 8

You'd think with my countdown blog each day it would give me little room to "forget" about the Christmas details that I need to be working on. But as you learned yesterday, if its not written down in 100 places, I won't remember.

So here I am today and I almost panicked when I wrote #8 in the title. Its literally like I just woke up, crawled out from under my rock, and screamed "Christmas is only 8 days away!!!!!!!".

Now, I have done some of my Christmas shopping but there's definitely more to do. What really freaked me out this morning is the Christmas breakfast menu. Nothing! Not a plan in my mind. I know this should be the fun, traditional meal and shouldn't cause me so much stress. But it does. Why? Because my family doesn't like the traditional menu that I grew up with. An amazing dish with an even more amazing name, "Wife Saver". Yes, you heard it right. There is soooo nothing PC about the name but let me tell you it is truly a wife saver. You can make it the night before. Pop it in the oven while everyone is opening their stockings and wha-la breakfast. As I kid I drooled just thinking of this amazing Christmas breakfast. My mom saved it specifically for Christmas morning. It was special. My family doesn't think it's special. Seriously, what do they know anyways? So every year I dread the Christmas morning menu. Everyone at the Ellis home wants pancakes. I, for one, do not think getting up on Christmas morning and missing out on all the togetherness so that I can flip pancakes for 7 relaxing. Anyone with me on this one?

I figured my true love might not remember me. So I bought myself a gift, wrapped it, and placed it under the tree. {What? You've never done that?}
