Wednesday sale con't, thoughts, shoe news, & a sneak peak....

So I felt kinda bad cuz I usually try to post the Wednesday sale early Wed morning.  Yesterday I forgot until almost 10am.  So to apologize for my untimely manner I am extending the Wednesday sale for today as well.  Those Simple Satire's are calling your name so come in today and try them on.  At only $48 you can't go wrong.

In other news, I'd like to hear what you think of my blog look?  The good, the bad and the ugly...I'm all ears.  Is it easy to navigate or too busy? love it? hate?  Let me know.  I can't decide.  I like change but sometimes change isn't good so send me a comment and share your input.  While you are at it...fill out the online survey too.  I so value customer feedback and would love to hear everyone's input on what they think of Sole Obsession Footwear.  We've been open for over a year now...crazy...so tell us what you've liked, what we can change, what other shoes/products you'd like to see at the store.

In shoe news, Dansko just sent me the catalogue for fall 2010.  I can't divulge secrets just yet but I am so excited for March's shoe show.  The catalogue is full of new styles and completely new looks for Dansko.  I was in shock as I flipped through the pages.  I dare say it's the boldest new look for Dansko that I have seen.  There's an entire collection of wedges, cute boots will fur lining, some awesome new heels and a gorgeous knee high boot that comes in size 12.  HEAVEN!  Stay tuned for pics after the March show.

For a sneak peak of what Dansko is offering us this spring. Check out these beauties.  They should be arriving in the store sometime in February.  I'm already in love....

Wednesday's are Special

Satire: the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule.
I have no idea why Simple named these shoes the Satire.  Maybe because it is ironic that a shoe as cute and simple could actually be comfortable and even supportive.  That's my best guess.  What I do know is that these Satire Sneakers from Simple are my new almost Spring favorite.  Yes, the even come in size 12.  When I find a shoe in my size it is so hard to resist.  Especially when it is cute and girly.  I hate to dog on other shoe brands but when you try these on next to a pair of Converse, there is no comparison. Come try them on for yourself and see how cute can also be comfy.

These usually sell for $70
but today only you can get a pair for ONLY $48

{Sigh} Isn't it nice that Wednesday's are special?

Haiti

I am so overwhelmed by the donations of shoes. We have 4 large boxes ready to ship. Thank you to all of you that have brought in donations. Hopefully we can double and even triple that amount by the end of February. Please keep bringing in your shoes so that we can continue to help the Haitian people.

For a real hands on view of what is happening in Haiti I have posted a video below. I ask that you proceed with caution. It is real, extreme, and very difficult to watch. I share it to compel you to be in constant prayer for a destroyed nation that so desperately needs help.

From OOPS to SUCCESS

So my Snapsister came in today to see what help she could offer me with my blog predicament.  Although she did not appreciate the blame I bestowed upon her for making me mess up my blog :), Jodi encouraged me to not give up and keep trying. Tami was also here working for a bit today.  Between Jodi (the Snapsister), Tami and I, neither of us could figure out the whole HTML coding thing. We were stumped.
After the ladies left me to my madness I got busy.  I was not about to be outdone by something called HTML.
HT-my derrière is what it should be called.  (Sorry...my blog is quickly moving to adult rating these days.  This is what computers do to me)  But I digress, usually I'm not one to toot my own horn, but today, TOOT TOOT!

I figured it out!  I uploaded my new template, read through all that HTML jargon and somehow managed to accurately add my website link, my long lost widgets to the sidebars, and my email address to the contact button.  I am stoked!  I may quit shoes and go into HTML coding...okay maybe not.  I really don't think I could actually do it again.  It was a one hit wonder but I'm not complaining.  Whatever I managed to do worked and that is all that matters.  Now back to my real job...SHOES.

OOPS

So I get blog envy every now and then and think that I need to make my blog a bit more...different.  I was checking out some of my friend's blogs and thought the Snapsisters did a really cute job on their new look.  I tried to copy it, and low and behold, everything was lost.  I still had my posts but everything I had done, little widgets I had added, LOST!  I spent a good part of the morning and into the afternoon trying to fix it.  I'm still trying to fix it but I've about given up for the day.  Days like today make me want to jump up and down, scream profanities, and pull my hair out.  Why are computers so HORRIBLE?  I think its all a ploy to make the human race crazy.
So what do you think?  Do you like the fancy green and brown that I used to have or the new minimalist look?  Should I keep trying to get it back or should I give up?

Oh...and P.S. there was a coupon in the Tribune yesterday for the store.  Ravage your recycling boxes and don't miss out on great savings.

Support Haiti Relief and get $10 off your next pair of shoes

The devastation in Haiti keeps haunting me. I cannot imagine what it would feel like to be surrounded by so much sorrow, death, and destruction. It scares me to think of how common place tragedy is in so many parts of the world and yet in America we are beyond blessed. Often times I am struck by how that blessing might actually be ignorance. When I go to bed I don't consider the safety of my children - it is a given. When I go outside, I'm not afraid to walk to my car or take out the trash. But so many are not blessed with reassurance. So many have to live their lives in fear of disaster, be it by nature or violence.

I often feel helpless when I hear about other country's tragedy. But helplessness doesn't have to mean we can't try. Trying to offer support, no matter how small is better than nothing. One small way that we can help is by donating shoes. Many of you are aware that Sole Obsession is partnered with an organization called Soles4Souls. They are dedicating all shoes donated between now and the end of February to Haiti. Will you help in their efforts to support Haiti?

Bring in any shoes that you can part with to Sole Obsession Footwear and we will give you $10 off your next pair of shoes.

We are collecting any and all kinds: Men's, Women's and Kids.

Thank you for your help.

*One $10 off coupon per customer. Coupon valid toward purchase of footwear, not accessories.
Not to be used on clearance items.

Praying for the Spoelstra and Heutink families

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was close to Nick Spoelstra and his family. My wonderful friend Tami knows the Spoelstra family and has joined so many in mourning this loss. Tami so eloquently wrote, "God has the answers and we are looking to Him for comfort. Ours is not to wonder why..." I pray that God will provide that peace to Nick's family and friends during this time.

A new button

I have a new button on my side bar. The 3/50 project.

I have always been a shop local kinda girl. I love visiting quaint, unique shops and helping to support those who own them. Of course, now that I am a small business owner AND I am part of a town full of small business owners, I feel even more passionate about this cause. What used to be something I enjoyed simply because has turned into something I enjoy because of it's outcome.
Of course, I always knew that I was supporting the business owner by shopping at their store. What I didn't fully grasp is the support shopping local has on the community.
You know that lovely thing we all hate called sales tax? Well, it paves our streets, improves our parks, and helps our town thrive. Not only that, shopping local provides jobs for countless local citizens who would maybe otherwise not have a job to go to. Last but not least, supporting local business keeps our town "alive" and encourages other business to set up shop here too. Its the basic cycle of life. What comes around goes around.
The 3/50 plan is simple...pick 3 businesses that you would miss if they disappeared and spend $50 each month buying something at these local businesses. Be a part of the cycle that keeps Lynden turning.

You can read tons more about this on the 3/50 project website.

I'll leave with one more stat from the website. "For every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online and nothing comes home.
